How to Pack Keyboards, Drums, Cymbals, and Other Large Instruments
Protect keyboards, drums, cymbals, hardware, and other large instruments with appropriately sized packaging and secure internal support.
Keyboards and Digital Pianos
Protect keys, screens, knobs, switches, connections, and corners. Use fitted manufacturer packaging when it remains strong and complete, or use a sturdy appropriately sized box with dense cushioning. Prevent the instrument from moving or carrying weight on its keys and controls.
Drums
Remove or secure loose hardware that could shift or scratch the shells. Protect hoops, bearing edges, mounts, and finishes. Wrap drums individually, even when smaller drums are carefully nested inside larger shells.
Cymbals
Separate cymbals with protective material and use rigid packaging that prevents bending, edge impact, and movement. Do not rely on a thin bag or soft case as the exterior shipping package.
Stands and Heavy Hardware
Bundle and wrap stands, pedals, clamps, and other hardware separately. Heavy metal parts should not move freely beside an instrument and may require a separate package.
Measure and weigh every finished package, then confirm that it meets the chosen carrier's current size, weight, packaging, and special-handling requirements.
