Universal Music Group has made changes to its leadership in Nashville, appointing Mike Harris as president and CEO. Dave Cobb will step in as chief creative officer. Cindy Mabe has left her position as chair and CEO of UMG Nashville after two years in that role and over 18 years with the company.

Harris, who previously held the role of executive vice president and COO, joined UMG in 2013 and moved to the Nashville division in 2016. Although he initially announced plans to leave the company in September to explore new opportunities, he ultimately decided to stay.

Dave Cobb is recognized for his work with a variety of artists, including Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, and Brandi Carlile, as well as Mumford & Sons, Zayn, Greta Van Fleet, Little Big Town, Reba McEntire, Teddy Swims, Stevie Nicks, Rival Sons, and Zach Bryan. Additionally, he has experience in the film industry, having worked on Baz Luhrmann’s "Elvis" and the 2018 film "A Star Is Born." He is also involved in an upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic starring Jeremy Allen White.

Lucian Grainge, chairman and CEO of UMG, commented in a release, “We see an incredible opportunity to expand our presence in Nashville and build upon our industry-leading track record. The worldwide success of our country artists demonstrates that the genre truly has no boundaries, and I’m excited for what lies ahead creatively and commercially.”

This announcement coincides with Universal Music Group's plans to invest $250 million in a film and music studio campus in Berry Hill.
