The 46th Annual West Coast Songwriters Conference comes to Los Angeles College of Music in Pasadena October 9–11, 2026, bringing songwriters, artists, producers and music industry professionals together for three days of workshops, song evaluations, networking, performances and one-on-one industry access.

For songwriters looking to sharpen their craft, understand today's music business and make real industry connections, Pasadena is the place to be this weekend.

The 46th Annual West Coast Songwriters Conference takes place October 9–11, 2026, at Los Angeles College of Music (LACM) in Pasadena, California.

Presented by West Coast Songwriters (WCS), the annual music conference brings songwriters face-to-face with hit songwriters, producers, publishers, attorneys, licensing professionals and other music industry leaders.

And after 46 years, that face-to-face connection may be more valuable than ever.

More Than a Songwriting Conference

There are thousands of videos online explaining how to write songs, release music or navigate the music business.

There are considerably fewer opportunities to sit across from someone who actually works in the industry, play them your song and have a real conversation.

That's a big part of what has kept the West Coast Songwriters Conference going for more than four decades.

This year's theme, “Inspiring Voices, Elevating Talent,” arrives at an interesting time for independent songwriters and artists.

Streaming economics, songwriter royalties and rights, sync licensing, artificial intelligence, audience development and the challenge of creating a sustainable music career are changing how songwriters think about the business behind their music.

Rather than treating those issues as conversations happening somewhere else, WCS is putting songwriters in the room with people dealing with them every day.

Hit Songwriters, Producers and Music Industry Professionals

The 2026 West Coast Songwriters Conference brings some serious songwriting and production experience to Pasadena.

Among the confirmed guests are seven-time GRAMMY nominee Lauren Christy, Grammy-winning producer and engineer Reto Peter, multi-platinum songwriter and producer Heather Holley, Billboard No. 1 and platinum-selling songwriter Krysta Youngs, Grammy-nominated songwriter Stefani Fryzel (DYLN), platinum songwriter Jen Adan, Grammy-winning songwriter and vocal producer Trey Campbell, and Kasia “KC” Livingston.

The conference isn't limited to the creative side of the business.

Industry professionals scheduled to participate include Ben Kramer, Head of Artist and Label Development at YouTube; Jamie Dominguez of The Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC); Erin McAnally, Executive Director of Songwriters of North America (SONA); music attorneys Corey Field and Cory Shackelford; APM Music Creative Director Robert Anthony Navarro; TREND President Hunter Scott; and other professionals working across publishing, licensing, marketing, PR and artist development.

That's an important distinction.

Writing a great song is one thing.

Building a career around it is another.

“I Wrote a Great Song… Now What?”

It's a question nearly every songwriter eventually asks.

The 2026 conference tackles it directly.

Saturday's programming explores some of the biggest issues facing today's songwriters and independent artists, including music rights, copyrights, royalties, streaming, sync licensing and building a sustainable career in music.

A music-rights panel brings together attorneys and representatives from organizations including The MLC and SONA to discuss the machinery behind copyrights, royalties and songwriter rights.

“Screaming into the Void: Sync VS Streams” examines two very different ways music creates value for artists and songwriters.

Another session gets straight to the question:

“I Wrote a Great Song… Now What?”

The conference also includes live song listening and evaluation, an independent-artist workshop, vocal instruction and “Women on Top,” featuring accomplished women songwriters and producers including Lauren Christy, Heather Holley, Stefani Fryzel, Krysta Youngs and Jen Adan.

Saturday concludes with the Sunset Concert, featuring winners of the 2026 WCS Song Contest.

Songwriters: Bring Your Songs

One of the biggest advantages of attending a songwriting conference in person is simple:

You get to participate.

Attendees can sign up for one-on-one sessions with music industry professionals and song evaluations, putting their own songs directly into the conversation.

The weekend begins Friday with registration and an Open Mic & Mixer, giving songwriters an opportunity to perform, meet other writers and start making connections before Saturday's conference programming.

And those connections can matter.

A songwriter might arrive looking for feedback on a chorus and leave having met a future collaborator.

An independent artist may come looking for information about music royalties and meet someone who completely changes the way they approach releasing their next record.

Someone else may finally hear the piece of advice that helps turn a good song into a great one.

Those moments are difficult to manufacture through a screen.

46 Years of Supporting Songwriters

Founded in 1979, West Coast Songwriters has spent decades building a community around songwriting, education and opportunity.

The organization offers open mics, song evaluations, workshops, showcases, pitching opportunities, retreats and its annual music conference.

The music industry surrounding those songwriters has changed dramatically.

The cassette became the CD. The CD became the download. Downloads gave way to streaming.

Home recording technology made professional-quality music production accessible to independent artists. Digital distribution opened the doors to releasing music without a traditional record label. Social media transformed artist development and music marketing.

Now artificial intelligence and generative music technology are forcing another generation of questions about authorship, ownership and the value of human creativity.

But one thing hasn't changed much:

A great song still matters.

And knowing the right people who can help you do something with it matters, too.

Why the West Coast Songwriters Conference Matters in 2026

That's what makes the 46th Annual West Coast Songwriters Conference particularly relevant this year.

This isn't simply about learning how to write a better song.

It's about understanding the world that song enters after you finish writing it.

It's about copyrights.

Royalties.

Sync.

Streaming.

Releasing music.

Building an audience.

Making connections.

And ultimately figuring out how to turn songwriting from something you love doing into something that can support a career.

For songwriters willing to show up with a notebook, a few songs and an open mind, Pasadena might be a pretty good place to be October 9–11.
