Diamond Rio Builds on 35 Years of Hits With America Works

The Grammy-winning vocal group announces a new EP as “Meet in the Middle,” “One More Day,” and “Beautiful Mess” reach new platinum milestones.

For country fans, the name Diamond Rio comes with a familiar list of songs: “Meet in the Middle,” “One More Day,” “Beautiful Mess,” “Love a Little Stronger” and “Norma Jean Riley.” Across those records, the group established its identity through distinctive harmonies, musicianship and songs that have remained its calling cards for decades.

Now, 35 years after its breakthrough, Diamond Rio is adding to that catalog with America Works. The four-song EP arrives November 13, 2026, through Rio Records 2.0/One Riot Records, with the title track released September 18.

The announcement comes as three of the group’s best-known recordings reach new milestones. The RIAA has newly certified “Meet in the Middle” double platinum, while “One More Day” and “Beautiful Mess” have each earned platinum certification. The recognition connects the new release to the records that introduced Diamond Rio to millions of listeners.

“Meet in the Middle” made history in 1991 as the first debut single by a country group to reach No. 1. The self-titled debut album also went platinum, beginning a run that would include “How Your Love Makes Me Feel,” “Unbelievable” and “I Believe.” Along the way, Diamond Rio earned four CMA Vocal Group of the Year awards, two ACM Top Vocal Group awards, a Grammy and a Dove Award.

That history remains central to the group’s identity. Original members Marty Roe, Jimmy Olander, Dana Williams and Dan Truman continue in the current lineup alongside Carson McKee and Micah Schweinsberg. Brian Prout and Gene Johnson retired in 2023 after more than three decades with the group.

With America Works, much of the creative work comes from within Diamond Rio itself. Olander produced the EP and has writing credits on every track. Schweinsberg, the group’s drummer, wrote and directed the accompanying music videos.

Written by Olander and Jeffrey East, the title track focuses on Americans looking out for one another through service, sacrifice and everyday acts of selflessness. Its accompanying video brings that idea into the group’s own circle, featuring military personnel alongside relatives, friends and crew members.

Filmed partly at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, the video follows three people at different stages of life as they face personal challenges, help others and serve their country.

“Other than a few soldiers at Fort Campbell, every cast member in the video is connected to us personally,” Olander said in the release announcement. “It made the whole thing feel incredibly meaningful.”

For Schweinsberg, filming at Fort Campbell reinforced the purpose behind the project.

“We started at Fort Campbell getting shots of our military on the base,” he said. “I’ve always respected our military, but seeing them train and function reinstated my respect for their willingness to sacrifice in order to keep our freedom in this country.”

The next release, “Other Side of The World,” arrives October 16. Written by Olander, Roe and Heather Morgan, it draws from Roe’s experience watching his eldest daughter move to Australia after high school to study music at Hillsong College. Roe performs the song as a duet with McKee, bringing both sides of the parent-and-child story into the recording.

“Pink Guitar,” written by Olander, Hayley McLean and Josh Shilling, follows November 13 with the full EP and features McKee on lead vocals. The collection also includes “The Kick,” a previously released instrumental written and arranged by Olander that introduced McKee and Schweinsberg on a Diamond Rio recording.

The instrumental is a fitting inclusion for a group whose musicianship has always been part of its appeal. Alongside the vocal performances, it gives the collection room to feature the players, carrying that part of Diamond Rio’s identity into the new material.
