How to Package Marketplace Orders

Pack Marketplace orders with the right box, protective materials, and shipping-label preparation before handing them to a carrier.

Every Marketplace seller is responsible for packaging their orders so they are ready for carrier handling. OohYeah does not inspect, package, ship, or insure tangible goods.

Start With the Right Box

Choose a clean, sturdy corrugated box that fits the item and leaves room for protective materials. Do not rely on a weak, crushed, water-damaged, or poorly sized box. A generic box that does not properly fit a bass guitar, amplifier, record, or other item may leave it vulnerable in transit.

Protect the Item Inside

  • Wrap fragile surfaces, corners, and moving parts.
  • Use enough cushioning to keep the item from moving inside the box.
  • Pack multiple items separately so they cannot damage one another.
  • Use stronger packaging and consider double-boxing fragile, valuable, heavy, or irregularly shaped gear.
  • Remove old labels and markings before applying a new shipping label.

Seal and Label the Package

Use shipping tape to seal the center seam and both edge seams of the box. Attach the label securely to the largest flat surface, and do not place it over a seam. It is also helpful to place a duplicate shipping and return address inside the package.

Packaging Comes Before Coverage

Declared value, insurance, or other shipping protection is subject to the carrier’s own terms. It does not replace proper packaging. A carrier may deny a damage claim when packaging does not meet its requirements.

Use Current Carrier Guidance

Before shipping, review the current packaging instructions for your carrier:

  • UPS packaging tips
  • FedEx guidance for packing breakables
  • USPS package preparation guide
  • DHL Express packing instructions
