How to Pack Vinyl, CDs, and Music Collectibles
Pack records, CDs, cassettes, posters, autographed items, and collectibles to help prevent bending, scratches, seam splits, and breakage.
Records, CDs, cassettes, posters, autographed items, and music collectibles need packaging that protects them from bending, crushing, scratches, moisture, and movement.
Pack Vinyl Records Carefully
Use a rigid record mailer or a properly sized corrugated box, not a padded envelope. Add stiffeners or additional protection when appropriate. For unsealed records, protect the disc and cover separately to help prevent seam splits. Leave sealed records sealed unless the buyer has requested otherwise.
Protect CDs, Cassettes, and Small Media
Wrap jewel cases, boxed sets, and fragile media individually. Use rigid packaging and enough cushioning to keep items from cracking, rubbing, or moving during transit.
Protect Collectibles and Signed Items
Use sleeves, rigid backing, corner protection, or other materials appropriate to the item. Wrap each collectible individually, then place it in a sturdy box with enough cushioning to prevent movement. Do not allow framed items, loose inserts, or multiple collectibles to make contact with one another.
Prevent Bending and Moisture Damage
Use rigid packaging for posters, prints, inserts, and other flat items. Protect against moisture with suitable inner packaging when needed, but do not use packaging that allows the item to slide or bend inside the shipment.
Seal and Keep Records
Seal the package with shipping tape, remove old labels, and place the new label on a flat surface. Photograph the item and the completed package before carrier drop-off, then retain the drop-off receipt and tracking information.
Carrier coverage is subject to the carrier’s own terms and does not replace proper packaging.
